Floors in concrete polishing services environments are exposed to tough chemicals such as hydraulic fluids, motor oils, cleaning solvents and acids that can degrade or discolour standard concrete flooring systems. Polyurea coatings provide a strong protective shield against these substances, shielding the surface and preventing chemical molecules from penetrating or damaging the concrete beneath.
Abrasion is another common issue that industrial concrete floors must combat, resulting in chipping and cracking. Coatings provide a resilient shield that distributes impact load evenly, minimizing localized damage and keeping the surface smooth and safe to walk on.
Polished Concrete Safety Features
This article focuses on the development of a cost-effective dry-shake surface hardener for enhancing the durability of industrial concrete floors. A series of unique mixtures were formulated by altering the sand ratios and incorporating superplasticizers in order to optimize the composition. Results indicate that mixing smaller sized sand resulted in better particle packing and reduced porosity, thereby improving the surface hardener’s flowability, compressive strength, flexural strength and water absorption. Moreover, the addition of a high level of superplasticizer improved both the flexural and tensile strength of the mixtures, suggesting that the use of higher levels of superplasticizer may be a viable approach for enhancing the durability of industrial concrete floors.
